Avengers: Infinity War - Predicting The Entire Plot In 20 Steps

18. Thanos Attacks Thor's Ship (And Thinks He Kills Thor)

As already established by the ominous post-credits scene in Thor: Ragnarok, Thanos' second stop on his tour de Infinity Stones is bumping into Thor's ship full of Asgardian refugees (we know it's the second step as the Infinity War trailers show him already in possession of the Power Stone).

Something must have alerted Thanos to the fact that there's an Infinity Stone on board, as it appears he interrogates Thor to find its location (or at least to try and compel Loki to confess it). Why else would he be attacking the ship without a specific reason if he's in the middle of his Infinity Quest, after all?

By the look of it, Thanos kills at least some of the Asgardians off, but it's likely that most of the rest of the main cast of Ragnarok (so Valkyrie, Korg and Miek) escape along with Bruce Banner, who escapes in Hulk form. There's no way everyone who survived Ragnarok is being killed (not when there's spin-off potential), but Heimdall may be the film's first big casualty as he's now fully served his purpose (and a tie-in toy has revealed that Thor seems to end up with his sword).

Thanos has to believe he kills Thor at this point as he throws him out into space. The Titan simply wouldn't be careless enough to leave such a loose end and may misunderstand how powerful the God Of Thunder actually is.
