Ayelet Zurer Replaces Julia Ormond As Superman's Mom In MAN OF STEEL

A last minute casting change for Zack Snyder and the already well into filming Superman reboot as the Israeli Angels & Demons actress boards as his Kryptonian mom Lara Lor-Van.

A last minute casting change for Zack Snyder and the already well into filming Superman reboot Man of Steel. Deadline reports that Julia Ormond has bailed on the production and will no longer play Superman's birth mother Lara Lor-Van, but instead it will be Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer, best known for her turn opposite Tom Hanks in Angels & Demons or as Eric Bana's wife in Munich. No reason has been given for why Ormond exited so late but maybe it's because she realised the Krytonian Mom always plays second foil in these things to Supe's father Jor-El, and Russell Crowe doing his best scene-chewing Marlon Brando is probably a thankless role to be alongside. Though intriguingly and I don't know whether I'm looking too much into or not but Fleming writes purposely that it was Snyder who made the change rather than Ormond leaving off her own accord. The truth will come out but maybe it's simply because Ormond is 46 (though looks 50) and Zurer is 42 (but could still pass mid 30's).
