Bad Times At The El Royale: Ranking Every Major Performance Worst To Best
4. Jeff Bridges As Father Daniel Flynn
It's no secret that Bridges is one of the most insanely talented dudes working in Hollywood, but every now and then he can still miraculously surprise you with just how great he truly is.
His role as Father Daniel Flynn is one of those beautiful surprises. From the moment Flynn is introduced, it is clear that something is more than a bit off about him. Sure, there's the more overt reason in that he's there to retrieve some money his brother hid under the motel long ago. But where Bridges performance really takes flight is in the moments where Flynn is being open about his disease.
Flynn struggles with memory and recall, to the point that he often forgets what he's doing, where he is, or even who he is. The scene where he first admits this problem to Darlene in the motel lobby over pie is unexpectedly touching.
Goddard fills the background of Bridges' frames with all kinds of red and brown hues, allowing his piercing blue eyes to really stand out. It's through these eyes that Bridges is able to do an insane amount of heavy lifting for the character, as he expresses genuine sorrow and frustration.
He's insanely good, even as he spends the majority of the film playing assists to other performances.
