BAFTAs 2018: 7 Ups & 6 Downs

3. Best Production Design: The Shape Of Water Beats Blade Runner 2049

The Shape of Water won the Best Production Design BAFTA, robbing Blade Runner 2049 of a well-earned award for its jaw-dropping set design and overall stunning production quality.

That's not to hurl too much shade at Guillermo del Toro's film, which still boasted some of the year's most evocative production design, but this really felt like BAFTA throwing the award at the film because they couldn't reward it in many other categories.

It was the safest choice, really, when the creativity involved in Blade Runner 2049's world-building just seemed like a much more impressive - not to mention challenging - feat.
