BAFTAs 2019: 6 Ups & 8 Downs
2. Olivia Colman Wins Best Actress
As with Rachel Weisz, some are going to make the argument that Olivia Colman benefited from a home-field advantage in scooping the Best Actress BAFTA, but it was absolutely a thoroughly deserved win its own right.
It's an especially interesting victory as Glenn Close has been the season-long front-runner for Best Actress for her fierce performance in The Wife, and while the British sway can't be discounted, between her Golden Globe and BAFTA wins, Colman's certainly picking up momentum as the Big One approaches.
Colman's acceptance speech was, as expected, totally adorable, and she's certainly doing everything she can to carve a charming path to the Academy Awards.
It'll probably still go to Close if only because she's so intensely deserving of an Oscar, but a Colman win wouldn't be a huge shock, nor would it be "robbing" Close of anything.
