1. Joker Wins Best Casting
This year's show finally introduced the much-requested Best Casting award, presented to the casting director who is so often responsible for a movie's ensemble cast gelling as brilliantly as they do.
In its inaugural year, the award was given to Joker, and though the film certainly benefits from its strong ensemble, was it really a rightful winner over the likes of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Parasite, and The Irishman? Hell, the latter wasn't even nominated.
While both of these films might've had their chances weakened by the presumption that the casts were hand-picked by the directors themselves, the Joker win here still feels pretty tepid and questionable all things considered.
These gripes aside, there was a lot to like about this year's show. Here's everything the Academy got right...
