Noting that the Bafta meant a lot to her because English people were "snobbish" was a bold way to accept the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, but Yuh-Jung Youn's acceptance speech was as entertaining as her performance in Minari.

As Soon-ja, the eccentric grandmother in Minari, her performance managed to showcase an equal amount of comedy, drama and heart (more so than any of her other nominees). It was the ever evolving relationship between Soon-ja and her grandson David that was at the heart of the film and made this performance a delight to watch and - without giving away any spoilers - ultimately heart-breaking.

After winning the Screen Actors Guild award for Best Supporting Actress Youn's Bafta win seemed fairly likely, only to be challenged by Maria Bakalova's performance in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. As the Academy Awards approach later this month Youn is now locked in to win Best Supporting Actress, and a deserving winner at that.
