The Batman: 10 Essential Stories For Affleck's 2019 Solo Movie

10. No Man's Land

Like the Marvel stand-alone movies that have come after The Avengers, the issue for a stand-alone Batman movie after the Justice League movie that is rumoured to follow Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice is how you authentically tell a story for one character that isn't over-shadowed by the question of why his super-buddies didn't help out. Naturally, the fact that each superhero has their own city or country in the DC universe makes it less of an issue, but in order to reinforce the justification for Batman's solitude (short of making him fall out with the Justice League over pay and conditions or something) Warners should be looking to stories like No Man's Land. In it an Earthquake turns Gotham into a no man's land where outside governments refuse to intervene, and allowing the villains to team up and take over the city. We've heard some of that before, as it's basically the foundation for Bane's plan in The Dark Knight Rises, but when he handed over control to the people we missed the opportunity to see this story play out properly. And who doesn't want to see a Batman with his back to the wall, fighting an army of villains on his own in a dystopian Gotham?
