Batman: 10 Reasons Why Tim Burton's Was The Best

6. Michael Gough As Alfred Pennyworth

Alfred The late Michael Gough acted as the beloved Alfred Pennyworth for both of Tim Burton's Batman films and the two Joel Schumacher films that followed. This character is one that has always been around to take care of Bruce following the death of his parents. Alfred is trustworthy (he does keep Bruce's biggest secret, after all), very helpful and provides some of the best advice. Gough presents himself as the perfect Alfred. It's almost as if he isn't acting at all - he just is Alfred Pennyworth. A butler and a parental figure that Bruce missed out on - this character is vital to every Batman story. His thorough knowledge of Bruce and his regular behaviours add comedy to a predominantly dark story. Many Batman fans hold a very high regard for Michael Caine's portrayal (which of course is also magnificent), however Michael Gough's sweet and sentimental Alfred gives even the best of actors a run for their money.
