5. "Why So Serious?"
Films about superheroes should never take themselves too seriously. In such a surreal world there must be an element of comedy and light-heartedness. Even Marvel's The Avenger's and supporting films have not become lost in a cloud of gloom and dread. Superheroes are extraordinary people (or aliens - I'm looking at you, Superman!) that use the exceptional aspects about themselves to save the world from the most psychotic criminal minds to ever grace the planet. These things don't happen in real life, so why bother trying to fit them into
our world? Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy became quite dark and sinister which turns them into those films that you have to really be in the right mood to watch. He tried to make the films as close to reality as he could, but that takes much of the fun out of it. The point of a superhero film should be to transport the viewers
into an alternate reality - a different version of the world we really live in.
This is never forgotten while watching Tim Burton's rendition - he doesn't try to make us think that this could ever be real. It's a fantasy world for our minds to escape to and that's why they're so entertaining. Batman and Batman Returns contain plenty of seriousness along with many elements of comedy to break the ice, interesting love stories, great characters and an exceptional number of action sequences. Tending to practically every emotion and interest - these are films that anyone could enjoy.
