And finally we have the Dark Knight himself, Michael Keaton, whose initial casting as Batman sparked perhaps the most ferocious fan backlash in the history of comic book movies - and that's saying something.

Keaton, the star of Mr. Mom and Beetlejuice, proved all his haters wrong however, and of course returned to play Batman once more in Batman Returns. Despite the promise of a hefty payday, however, he bailed from a proposed third film after Burton himself departed.

Keaton continued to work regularly throughout the '90s in a host of projects, from Much Ado About Nothing to The Paper, Multiplicity, Jackie Brown, and Jack Frost.

The 2000s marked a noted decline in his career, however, until he enjoyed a resurgence by appearing in the 2007 espionage series The Company (for which he received a SAG acting nomination), voicing Ken in Toy Story 3, and being an hilarious supporting standout in the Adam McKay comedy The Other Guys.

But Keaton truly came back on top when he received a Best Actor Oscar nomination - his first and only nod, surprisingly - for his self-reflexive, Batman-encompassing performance in 2014's surreal drama Birdman.

Keaton immediately became a hot Hollywood property once again, appearing in Minions, the Best Picture-winning Spotlight, The Founder, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Dumbo, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

He also has two new superhero movies gearing up for release - Morbius (where he'll reprise his Spider-Man Vulture role), and The Flash, where he'll play a middle-aged Bruce Wayne from the same continuity as the Burton Batman films. You love to see it.
