What even needs to be said about Jack Nicholson? He had nine Oscar nominations and two wins to his name before Batman was even released, and the film's mammoth commercial success earned him as much as $90 million in back-end profits.

Nicholson worked for over two decades after the release of Batman, whereby he secured three more Oscar nominations including a third win in 1998 for As Good As It Gets.

Other notable roles in his post-Batman career include The Two Jakes (which he also directed), A Few Good Men, Hoffa, Wolf, Mars Attacks!, The Pledge, About Schmidt, Anger Management, Something's Gotta Give, The Departed, and The Bucket List.

Nicholson's final role was in 2010's James L. Brooks film How Do You Know, after which it was reported that he had retired from acting.

Though Nicholson refuted this claim, he acquiesced that his drive to be "out there" had diminished, yet has maintained something of a public profile by routinely attending LA Lakers home games up until the onset of the pandemic.

Nicholson teased exiting retirement to star opposite Kristen Wiig in a remake of the 2017 German hit comedy Toni Erdmann, but the project eventually fell apart.

He was also invited to appear in both Ready Player One and Mike Flanagan's The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep, though ultimately declined in both cases.
