Batman: 75 Greatest Ever Moments

28. "I Am The Batman"- The Dark Knight

A great scene through and through, the "I am the Batman" moment - courtesy of one Harvey Dent - is a brilliant centrepiece to the urban thriller that is The Dark Knight. As Bruce Wayne prepares to unveil his true identity in order to save the lives of many innocent people at a press conference, district attorney Harvey Dent - Gotham's "White Knight" - comes forward and takes the fall. "I am the Batman," he reveals to a shock room, highlighting his dedication to bringing down the Joker, thus rendering his later transformation into Two-Face as even more heartbreaking.

27. Bomb Disposal - Batman: The Movie

It just felt wrong not to include this somewhere. Seriously, have bombs ever looked like that?

26. The Batwing Flies - Batman

Nope, we've not gone for the Batwing in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, but the original Batwing first glimpsed in Tim Burton's first ever Batman movie. Okay, so you can definitely argue that the version here looks way less accomplished and technically progressive than the model we saw in The Dark Knight Rises, but you know what? There's something appealing about the way they rendered this version, with good old-fashioned practical effects. It's pretty damn... fly?

25. The Penguin's Plan - Batman Returns

The best scene from Tim Burton's follow-up to his own Batman arguably sees Danny De Vito's Penguin returning home to his cave via a giant rubber duck boat, greeting his pet penguins, getting angry at his goons, whilst shouting things like "I am not a human being! I am an animal!" Then he relays his plan in a giddy little monologue before shooting one of his henchman at point blank range with a gun hidden in his umbrella. Also: we can't go on without mentioning the scene where the Penguin ends up biting some guy's nose. Who "nose" why it's so funny? IT JUST IS.

24. Mark Hamill's Joker Performance

Many will see Heath Ledger's unstable, chaotic madman as the definitive version of the character, but it is Mark Hammill's iconic, maniacal laugh and pitch-perfect delivery that deserves a nod for the best vocal characterisation.

23. The Decision To Can Batman Triumphant

With Nic Cage, Madonna and Joel Schumacher teaming up, the potential for frankly ridiculous excess was plainly sign-posted, and unthinkably Warner Bros actually green-lit the flamboyant, ludicrous idea for Batman 5 after seeing the dailies for Batman & Robin. At some point later however, they withdrew their support and went in another direction, which eventually lead to the Dark Knight's redemption under Christopher Nolan.

22. Batman & Robin Save Peckham - Only Fools And Horses

Easily one of the most famous moments in all of British TV history, and a festive favourite, the Christmas special of long running, beloved Brit-com Only Fools & Horses features a loving tribute to the dynamic duo with a not so dynamic twist as a fancy dress party goes badly wrong.
