Batman: 80 Greatest Ever Moments

38. The Final Fight - Death Of The Family

Batman Death of the Family
DC Comics/Greg Capullo

With death of the Family essentially containing the Joker going full on Saw-level torture mode on batman, their climactic fight at the end of the series is undeniably the peak of the whole comic.

Having so much comic material being based around Batman’s refusal to kill the Joker, it packs all the more punch to see the Dark Knight driven to the very edge when Joker threatens the one thing he values more than his own morals; his family.

Sprinkle in a dose of impactful plot twists - namely that Batman may have legitimately known the Joker’s ‘real’ identity - and you have a moment that still feels as potent now as it did upon its publication seven years ago.

37. Bats Discovers Superman's Identity - World's Finest

The DC Animated Universe stands today as a seminal and beloved adaptation of the DC universe, and the moment Batman and Superman first collided was as incredible as it sounds.

The two don't get off to the best start, with Clark uses his X-Ray vision to peak under Batman's cowl, but Bruce gets him back in the end. Leaving a tracer on his cape, Bruce observes the Daily Planet reporter from a nearby skyscraper and lingers just long enough to let him know that, well, he knows.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
