Batman: 80 Greatest Ever Moments

10. Steve Englehart And Marshall Rogers' Batman - Strange Apparitions

Batman Strange Apparitions
DC Comics

The first person to tell you that Strange Apparitions is one of the greatest and most important Batman collections ever compiled will likely be Steve Englehart himself. The creator isn't afraid of championing his time on the Dark Knight as a defining moment for the character, but given just how great and legendary some of the stories the writer helmed are, there's really no point in arguing.

The Laughing Fish, Sign of the Joker and Hugo Strange's famous plot to unmask Batman occurred during Englehart's time with the character, and went some way in conjuring the definitive version of Batman most tend to think of today.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
