Batman: 80 Greatest Ever Moments

9. The Opening Scene - Batman Returns

Tim Burton's two Batman films are the very definition of iconic. Whether it be the director's gothic sensibilities or Danny Elfman's legendary score, both Batman 1989 and Batman Returns managed to impart a powerful legacy after their release.

If any scene were to encapsulate Burton's Batman, it would be the opening from Batman Returns. From the moment Elfman's theme starts to swell, to where Michael Keaton's Bruce rises from his nightly brood, you just know that this is Batman. The atmosphere is beyond comparison, and intimates but one reason why Burton's Bat-films are so adored.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
