Batman may be one of the toughest mortals in the DC Universe, but it takes more than a mere man to take down Deathstroke, and the Dark Knight found that out the hard way in 1991's City of Assassins arc.

This storyline played out on the pages of the character’s solo series and saw the merc investigating a spree of mob assassinations in Gotham City.

Naturally, the Bat isn’t too thrilled about a one-eyed killer running around his stomping ground unchecked and the pair soon end up on a collision course.

Bats is a master of hand-to-hand combat and one of the most resourceful heroes out there, but Deathstroke is an unstoppable supersoldier with enhanced everything, and those attributes helped him deal the Caped Crusader a brutal beatdown.

The pair forged an uneasy alliance as the storyline wore on, but they’ve come to blows several times since, with Deathstroke often coming out on top - not many villains can claim such an impressive head-to-head record against the Dark Knight.
