Batman Film Reboot: 6 New Stories For The Dark Knight
6. The Arkhamverse
If you've played the Arkham games, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't then go play them NOW! The stories of both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City are mind-blowing. It's something so simple, yet something that's never been done before in a videogame. The idea was this: "What would happen if you locked up Batman and every single one of his villains in one place, for one night?"The answer? Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Be it the gameplay, story-mode or the side-missions, every single aspect of these games nailed it in terms of what everyone desperately wanted in a Batman game for a long time. Furthermore, with Batman: Arkham Origins coming out later this year (October 25th), I feel that this game trilogy would be a perfect story arc for a new Batman trilogy. Moreover, since Arkham Origins is rumoured to be around Batman's early days, with Arkham City's Batman being more in his peak, the audience will be able to see his character develop over the course of the films.
Another thing that would really make the Arkhamverse a great place to set the new Batman films is the fact that the sense of realism that was present in Nolan's trilogy, is still present. You can see this from the picture above, for example by the way in which Batman is clearly wearing armour for protection, as opposed to just a one-piece suit as he does in other incarnations. However, even though this realism is present, you still have the supernatural elements in this Universe. Take the Scarecrow missions in Arkham Asylum, for instance. However, this can only work if the films are executed as well as the games, which is indeed a tall order. Nonetheless, with the right actors, director and screenwriters, I believe that basing the new Batman films around the Arkhamverse has the potential to be hugely successful.
