Batman: Gotham By Gaslight - 10 Ways It Could Save DC's Animated Films

1. It Could Lead To Better Things

While yes, this is admittedly a tad optimistic (or even premature) to say, the most exciting aspect of Gotham by Gaslight is that it presents a whole new wave of opportunities for Warner Bros. Animation to explore.

You see, back in the day, DC Animation had a particularly heavy influence across a wide variety of mediums. Owed in part to the success of Batman: The Animated Series, the DC Animated Universe featured in comics, merchandise and even video games. Prior to Batman Begins, it offered what was, to many, the defining image of Batman in the 21st century.

Those familiar with WB's adventures in the gaming medium will know that, not all that long ago, a Gotham by Gaslight game was actually in development. With Rocksteady's Arkham series doing the rounds and y'know, revolutionising the concept of what a superhero video game could be, WB saw fit to pull the plug on the project, despite the fact that there was room for two franchises at the time.

With that in mind, it's not wholly unrealistic to surmise that there could, in some reality, exist some motivation to reignite DC's animated features in that particular medium. It would certainly galvanise the company's presence on both fronts, and help divest from the Arkham format that, while of course revered, has shown its weaknesses in recent years.

It's not a stretch by any means, but in any case, it makes perfect sense for WB to bring an animated influence to their other endeavours. Gotham by Gaslight could be the catalyst for just that.
