Batman: Gotham By Gaslight Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

3. The Unremarkable Action Sequences

Aside from a few action beats, the majority of the movie's fight scenes are totally forgettable, boiling down to little more than generic fisticuffs.

There's a neat mid-film sequence where Batman chases the villain, Jack the Ripper, and perilously battles him atop a zeppelin, but otherwise the set-pieces don't even touch the sides, in large part due to the aforementioned cheap nature of the animation itself.

As with many of the film's other issues, this is a pervasive problem through most recent DC animations, and so it's clear that these films could most certainly use a fresh pair of eyes to try and revitalise the well-regimented style.
