6. The Style & Tone Are Perfect

Batman Return Of The Caped Crusaders Batman Robin
Warner Bros.

Despite its issues, this is an absolutely perfect film when you consider how stylistically and tonally it matches the original TV series, albeit with a little more on-the-nose ironic humour to update it for 2016.

The campy one-liners, complete with hilariously bewildering alliteration, are plentiful and marvelous, while moral lessons abound out of nowhere and feel as cringe-inducingly wholesome as they did in the original series.

As for the plot? It's as if not even more delightfully bonkers than the 60s show, featuring a riotous sequence in which Batman uses citric acid from an oversized lemon tart to break his restraints. Really.

And that's before they even go into space. The animated medium really is the perfect way to bring back the campy 60s Batman, because it allows the characters to be even wackier and loonier. Inspired is the word.
