Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders Review - 6 Ups And 4 Downs
5. It Mocks The Ending Of The Dark Knight Rises
At the end of the movie, Batman and Robin try to capture a fleeing Catwoman, who tells the pair, "I'll give myself up on one condition...we run away to Europe together, sip tea in a cafe and live happily ever after."
Robin replies, "Holy unsatisfying ending!", a rather barbed jab at the divisive ending of The Dark Knight Rises where, well, exactly that happens.
While pretty much everyone expected the movie to nod to the Adam West Batman movies, throwing some savage shade at a Nolan one was a little more unexpected (but very much welcome). It's easily one of the film's best jokes.
