Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders Review - 6 Ups And 4 Downs
3. The References Are Incredible
The references to both the Adam West Batman and the character's lore as a whole are both numerous and terrific throughout. Two of the more fun throwbacks include Batman getting hit on the head by The Penguin and briefly seeing all three versions of Catwoman from the TV series (Lee Meriwether and Eartha Kitt alongside Newmar), and the Dynamic Duo climbing up walls in much the same camera-tilted fashion as they did in the live-action series.
In addition, West's Batman bizarrely goes out of his way to quote both The Dark Knight Returns comic and Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, making this a terrific exercise in fan service. And yet, the nods are subtle enough that if you're a casual, they won't encroach on the experience or make you feel left out.
