The movie's penultimate scene shows a bald-headed Lex Luthor in prison when he's visited by Batman, who warns him that he'll be watching him wherever he goes. Lex then says that "the bells have already been rung", which many have taken to be referring to Darkseid, and just as Batman looks like he's going to brand Lex, he instead smashes his branding iron into the wall behind him. It's an interesting tease for Justice League, but most crucially shows that Batman has moved on from the rather peculiar, mostly unexplained killing spree he goes on against criminals earlier in the film. Hopefully this will mean a less controversial Caped Crusader from now on.
