Batman V Superman: 10 Reasons It's Not As Bad As The Critics Are Saying
1. Is Batman V Superman All That Different From Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Really?
Okay, so this last point is probably going to offend a bunch of people because that's how this stuff usually goes down, but it needs to be said...
Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon's long-awaited sequel to his own Avengers, is sitting pretty on Rotten Tomatoes with a respectable score of 75%. Not the best score ever, but it certainly stands as a recommendation to watch the film. Generally speaking, the critics praised the sequel for its action scenes, performances and entertainment factor, of course, and yet why did Age of Ultron get away with having a terrible, incomprehensible story?
Batman v Superman isn't that different from Age of Ultron - not really. Sure, Marvel's movie is more banterific, lighter in tone and more colourful in its aesthetic choices, but its plot is just as muddled and confusing - more so, perhaps - than Batman v Superman's. You probably couldn't explain the plot, step by step, of what happens in Snyder's film, but could you do that with Age of Ultron, either? The story made no sense at almost any point.
So it all comes down to a matter of personal preference perhaps, and the critics clearly like the easy-going in-house stylings of the Marvel movies over the darker DC tone. Fine. But to pretend that something like Age of Ultron (also incredibly overblown, by the way) deserves its 75% when Batman v Superman - slammed for having an awful narrative structure - winds up with a mere 30% rating... well, something is clearly amiss, wouldn't you say?
