Batman V Superman: 10 Things You Need To Know About Lex Luthor

10. It€™ll Be Nothing Like Gene Hackman€™s Luthor

Thanks both in part to Lex Luthor€™s importance and Superman€™s paltry rogues gallery, the villain has appeared in plenty of Superman films already. To those who have never picked up a comic book, Gene Hackman€™s interpretation may be their image of who the character is. And while Hackman€™s performance was strong, the characterization of Luthor was not. Thankfully, Eisenberg makes it sound like that will be avoided this time. Eisenberg has said that his performance as well as his character are completely different from what Gene Hackman did. He cited the different tone of this film, stating that he doesn€™t think a movie like the original Superman could get made in today€™s world. He instead likens his Luthor to one rooted in real psychology, where his malice and neuroses can be diagnosed. He makes no mention of Kevin Spacey, and while his performance was one of the bright spots of Superman Returns, it€™s probably for the best that we don€™t have another Luthor who€™s obsessed with cornering the property market.
