7. More Time With The Villain

When Zod gets an in-depth examination, he€™s actually a pretty fascinating villain. The idea that he was bred to be the protector of Krypton and was, in his mind, doing all he could to save his people needed to be explored a little more.Furthermore, Michael Shannon did well with the role but there just wasn€™t enough Zod to feel like a fully-formed threat. Keep in mind that outside of the prologue, he didn€™t resurface until halfway through the film.

If they take that same approach to Lex but simply give him more room to let us understand his motivations and worldview, he could become a classic cinematic villain and one worthy of his comic book self. If they really wanted to make him stand out, it could be great to use him as the voice of the real-life critics. The trailers suggest they might be having him blame Superman for the destruction he caused, which would make his machinations all the more relatable.

The more stake we have in the villain, the more we're going to care when Superman inevitably has to take him down.
