There's been a lot of hate directed towards Jesse Eisenberg and youthful, haired, Jesse Eisenberg-esque portrayal of Lex Luthor. And, really, what did you expect? Eisenberg has been cast based on his career transformation from geeky dweeb to geeky intellectual and his Oscar-nominated turn as infamous friend fu*k-overer Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, not for his similarity to Kevin Spacey (say what you want about Returns, but he was dependably great). The Luthor presented in the trailer is certainly not the standard Lex (is that a wig or will be see him lose his hair?), but is certainly buyable as a maniacal force who can manipulate the World's Finest into having a scuffle. That is, until, the very final seconds, where he faux-ominously utters "The red capes are coming," then repeats it just in case you thought the inclusion of a line was an accident. Seriously? That's more unashamedly stupid than "Do you bleed? You will", and that's saying something. Just... what? Yes, it's (possibly) a reference to The Midnight Ride Of Paul Revere, but does paraphrasing an old poem from an unrelated conflict all that's need to make good dialogue? It certainly doesn't excuse it sounding so ridiculous. In the context of the movie, the line just doesn't make sense. Are the Red Capes the name of Superman's SS-aping human army, or is it some general name for superheroes? Either way, it feels rather embarrassing coming from the same mouth that once delivered "If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you'd have invented Facebook." What did you think of the Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Comic-Con trailer? Head down to the comments and have your say.
