Batman V Superman: 7 Reasons Ben Affleck Is The Best Batman Ever
2. He Makes Batman Surprisingly Complex Without Saying That Much
Batman v Superman doesn't really go into much detail when it comes to exploring its characters on a deeply personal level; whilst everyone in the movie comes out feeling undeveloped, though, Batman is still made rich by way of Affleck's seething performance. He's the only character who feels rounded, despite the fact he doesn't say all that much. The key here is in what Affleck doesn't say; his face tells us what we need to know. There's an obvious jadedness in Affleck's take on Bruce Wayne, almost as if this guy has spent too much time in the limelight over the years and is now struggling to keep the Batman lurking inside him at bay. Affleck doesn't make his Bruce too self-entitled, either - he's older now; messing around in a water fountain with a bunch of supermodels doesn't suit this forty-something billionaire much as it did Christian Bale's late-twenties incarnation, and that's all conveyed in Affleck's facial expressions without the film consorting to dialogue. So Bruce Wayne has grown up. Not entirely, of course, because his being perceived as a hedonist of sorts is necessary to the Batman guise. But he's not a young man anymore, and - through mannerism alone - Affleck presents a complex history of not only his life as Batman, but the life he has led as playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne.
