Batman V Superman: 8 Things That Need To Change To Make It Work

2. You Don't Have To Be Aggressively Different

Man Of Steel changed a big chunk of the Superman mythos (at least when compared to how it's perceived in the mainstream), and while some of it was a lot of fun (the spaceship Fortress of Solitude works surprisingly well as an idea), at points it verged on trying a bit too hard to be very new. Now Henry Cavill's Superman is established, a sense of consistency should be expected, although keeping up the revisionism could still hurt Batman V Superman, especially given that it isn't just a Man Of Steel sequel. Ben Affleck's Batman is (obviously) going to be a key part of Dawn Of Justice and it'd be very tempting to make him every supporting character the polar opposite of the version in The Dark Knight Trilogy (it looks like it's already going that way with the hipster Joker). But if it's done without purpose then it'll just fall flat. Yes, Jeremy Irons shouldn't just repeat Michael Caine's shaky voice, but that doesn't mean he needs to be a badass. Biggest of all is Bruce Wayne himself, and thankfully it looks that, while Affleck's take is going to be unique, there's no forced differences between his and Christian Bale's performance (although that voice doesn't really need to be as mechanical).
