Batman V Superman: 9 Major Reveals From The New Images

6. Jim Gordon Is Dead

It was rumoured some time ago that Jim Gordon will not be part of the DC Extended Universe and now we have confirmation. A plaque is apparently shown at some point in Batman V Superman which is dedicated to the fallen Commissioner that reveals his demise some years before, and seeing as this movie is borrowing so much from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, it wouldn't be in the least bit surprising for Ellen Yindel to be in charge of the GCPD. Regardless, Empire appears to confirm this rumour by stating that the Bat signal is "a legacy from the Commissioner Gordon era." They also mention that Batman uses it to lure Superman to Gotham for their fight, and that too appears to indicate that it hasn't been used in some time. Removing Gordon from the picture is a bold move on Snyder's part, but it might ultimately come down to him knowing he can't top how well Christopher Nolan handled the relationship between the Caped Crusader and the Commissioner in The Dark Knight Trilogy (just like Marc Webb shied away from using J. Jonah Jameson in his Spider-Man movies because of J.K. Simmons' iconic performance). With producer Charles Roven teasing that Batman "has lost those near and dear to him", it might be a good time to accept that there will be no Jim Gordon in this world.
