7. Lex Is A Dick... Or Is He?
Jesse Eisenberg has attracted a lot of nerd-rage over his bouncily psychotic version of Lex Luthor, playing Superman's great nemesis as a sugared-up young genius instead of a quietly maniacal sociopath. He even has long hair, the bastard. Of course Lex having hair to start with is nothing new, and I'd be amazed if we didn't see him symbolically lose it by the film's end, but the attitude? Well, that could actually be pretty clever actually. Look past the seemingly E number ravaged attention span and listen to the more sinister tones of his dialogue and he seems more than rational, certainly not the wild eyed man-child who meets Clark Kent for the first time at the trailer's start. It's fair to say that Lex probably isn't all that he seems to be, especially when you consider the moody shot of a bald Eisenberg released months ago. Is it not more likely that, like our heroes, Lex is wearing a mask to the world too and simply playing the fool?
