Batman V Superman's Release Delay Will Make It Better

There was a time, not so long ago, when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was due to hit theatres this summer. Then in January 2014, the film was pushed back, leaving us with next March's unveiling. The reason was to allow director Zack Snyder time to more fully realise his vision, and that choice seems to have paid off. Speaking about the movie, Warner CEO Kevin Tsujihara dropped the following:

€œIt was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015. But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie. Having seen the movie multiple times, and again last night, I€™m extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it€™s so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC.€

2015 has been a little soft for Warner (Mad Max: Fury Road and San Andreas were successful but not huge), but it sounds like the choice to defer Batman V Superman for a year has resulted in a movie the studio are very proud of. The difference between a blockbuster which performs and a blockbuster that goes stratospheric is often qualitative, so it's definitely in Warner's interest to nail Batman V Superman as thoroughly as possible. The company's immediate future is resting on a foundation of DC projects, so getting things off to a smooth start is essential.

This news follows encouraging notices that an in-house screening at Warner drew a standing ovation, and the studio are particularly excited about Affleck's Batman. We won't know for sure if the reaction's accurate until the film opens 25th March next year, but it only seems logical an extra 8 months of tinkering will stand it in better stead.
