Nobody wants to see a giant cartoonish "POW!" appear on screen when Ben Affleck's Batman lands a punch on Henry Cavill's Superman's face (or do they? No, no they don't), but some nods to older Batman and Superman media - such as the Adam West Batman television series or the Christopher Reeve Superman movies - would certainly be welcome and fun inclusions to the movie. Cameos from actors who appeared in said productions, musical nods to the themes and scores of each production or a line of dialogue from either source would suffice and give those people who were fans of both/either of the two hero epics something to smile about.
