Batman Vs Superman: 10 Superior Actors Who Should Have Been Lex Luthor

1. Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy has already appeared in the Batman movies as the villainous Bane, and thus the chances of him ever appearing as another DC villain are slim. But, there is precedent for this sort of thing, with Chris Evans playing both the Human Torch and then Captain America for Marvel. Hardy should not be overlooked because he played Bane; in fact that performance could be the very reason he would make a great Lex Luthor. Hardy could bring the simmering ferocity of Bane to the character of Lex Luthor, and such is his chameleon-like ability to change appearance, it wouldn't even feel like the same actor. What sets Hardy apart from everyone else on this list, and especially from Jesse Eisenberg, is his pure physical presence: his physicality would suit any fight scenes perfectly, and he still has the poise and refinement to carry off the other side of the character. Dark Knight Rises, Lawless and The Fighter all showed that Hardy is one of cinemas finest modern pugilists, and it would have been enticing to see a Luthor who could physically mix it up with Superman, even if he would ultimately always be bested. Stand Out Moment: The opening scene of the Dark Knight Rises was an incredible cinema spectacle: the mid-air plane hijacking is an incredible visual, but our first meeting with Hardy's Bane is perfect. His method of speech and his physical presence are an incredible combination, and convinces us that we should truly fear Bane and his power from that first moment. Few modern villains have ever had so immediate an impact. Who do you think should have played Lex Luthor instead of Jesse Eisenberg? Share your own picks below.
