12. Will Lex Luthor Use The Destruction To Gain Favour With The Public?

This appeals as it feels exactly the kind of thing Luthor would do in the comic books, as gaining public favor at the expense of Superman has always been his M.O. As a man of self-made fortune, he likely loves the city that helped make him that way, but whether or not that love is genuine is conjecture. Does he truly honour his city or does he only see it only as a means to a more wealthy and powerful end? We have very few concrete story points from the actual film-makers, but certainly a lot of hopes and dreams from the fans as to the direction the film will take. However, it remains as one of the most important questions that should be answered. The outrage to the destruction, both on screen and in the audience, was palpable. To brush it aside would be a mistake. Will the public, or even Luthor, be for or against Superman? What kind of eventual threat will a young billionaire genius prove to a super powered alien? It almost sounds like it could be the setup for further sequels as one of the rumours floating around would have it that Superman ends the film in exile while the Government is approving the Justice League as a super team.
