Batman Vs Superman: 20 Big Questions That Still Need Answers
17. Will Lex Luthor Work With Or Against Bruce Wayne?
If Batman is going to be Superman's enemy, at least initially, does that mean that he is going to be in business together with Luthor? Will the two billionaires be brought together by a common interest to help people? Although Bruce's intentions for aiding the people of Metropolis would clearly be pure, the inevitable suggestion is that Lex's would remain questionable at least, and given Batman's legendary detective skills, you would like to think that the alliance would be a shaky one. The two should be presented as rivals - one of old, inherited money, and the other of self-made fortune - and neither should be presented as particularly trusting of the other to add another dimension to their relationship. It's unlikely either would consider the other their equal, especially since Bruce masquerades as a champion of justice who knows what helping people really means. You have to suspect that theirs is going to be a shaky rapport that will eventually lead Bruce to discover who Lex Luthor truly is. Wealth and power don't always equal benevolence, and though Bruce, at times, seems to spend his money frivolously, Lex characteristically has his eye on only one thing; more. A selfish CEO and a selfless CEO won't play well together and when Lex's true motives are displayed, it's going to make Bruce reconsider his position with him. Tie that together with his obsession of stopping and killing Superman and you've got a recipe for a major clash waiting to happen.
