Batman Vs Superman: 7 Things You Need To Know About Cyborg

5. His Father Turned Him Into A Cyborg

Unlike their Marvel counterparts, most of the classic DC superheroes didn't begin with tragic origin stories. Sure, Superman's home planet exploded and Batman's parents were murdered, but when Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Green Arrow (among many others) all made their first appearances there wasn't much tragedy involved. Cyborg's origin is a different story. Vic Stone is the only child of a pair of scientists. However, as a teenager Vic rejected his parents' hopes that he'd grow up to follow in their scientific footsteps and became a highly-touted high school athlete. While visiting his parents at their lab, an experiment went terribly wrong and destroyed much of Vic's body. Vic's father was forced to use experimental robot parts to keep his son alive. Instead of being all "Hey, thanks for saving my life, dad", Vic was furious about his transformation -- particularly because he could no longer play competitive sports due to his physical powers being tremendously augmented -- and hated his father for turning him into a "freak." Cyborg spent most of the early 1980s miserable about the way he looked and his missing humanity. Cyborg is generally portrayed nowadays as being more accepting of his bionic body because it gives him the power to become a world-saving superhero, but Cyborg still has plenty of bitter and angry moments from time-to-time. We'll probably see some of that in the movies.
