This may be the toughest job of all for any new Batman film, as Gary Oldman brought to life a character so mistreated by every previous Batman film that he truly made the role his own. James Gordon is so well known in popular culture, that he simply has to be at the very least mentioned in Batmans world. He is the hope that keeps alive the belief in what Bruce Wayne is trying to achieve, and without him the weak foundations with which Gotham is built on could crumble. With a new television show Gotham debuting on Fox next year, it will be interesting to see if the continuity between that world and Batman vs Superman will be the same. Lets hope the character is given as much if not more to do than his last cinematic outing, and can help cement this Batman universe as its own unique story.
As a pretty nerdy guy, I've loved film and television since I was a wee lad. Growing up in Ireland, The Den was the show to watch with it playing Batman The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and everything in between. I have an MA in Radio and Television Production and have written for various sites, hope you enjoy my articles/lists for What Culture!
