Batman vs. Superman: Ranking The Films From Worst To Best
6. Superman: The Movie (1978)
As the first superhero blockbuster, Superman: The Movie made a huge impact in showing the world that comic book characters can enjoyably make the leap from page to screen. Though it's obviously shown its age over the decades since its release, it's pure entertainment through and through, with a fun heart that continues to beat strong to the present day. For the few missteps it makes, particularly in crafting Lex Luthor as somewhat of a dope, it gets a lot right in nailing the heroism and noble nature of its titular character. At this point, it's hard to imagine it without the perfectly cast Christopher Reeve, from whom the film gains much of its charm. Though Reeve would go on to be wasted by the franchise's later installments, it's here that he set a bar for which all future actors taking on the Superman role have to strive for. And let's not forget John Williams' triumphant - and utterly iconic - theme, which still resonates as a perfect musical representation of who the character is and what he stands for. Superman: The Movie may be cheesy for new viewers accustomed to a world of brooding cinematic heroes or one-liner-spewing billionaires and ever-improving special effects, but its undeniable importance in the character's history, irrepressible charm and the fact it laid the groundwork for the superhero films we're seeing today is more than enough to justify its legacy.
