Batman's 10 Best Movie Moments
9. Batman’s Entrance (Batman)
It’s easy to forget due to the immense popularity of Nolan’s trilogy but Tim Burton’s Batman is a fantastic iteration of the character. In typical Burton fashion, this is a much more gothic affair and Burton sets his stall out right from the off with this opening.
We have seen two scumbags mug a helpless family then laughing and joking about it on a rooftop a little later. One of them starts talking about the rumours of a huge Bat stalking criminals and is immediately chastised by his colleague for believing in a ridiculous myth, then we see a Bat shaped silhouette softly landing in the background.
The best thing about this scene is it sets up the idea of Batman as a myth amongst criminals, a boogeyman who will come after them if they are naughty, then proceeds to show us how much fear he instils in them and why. After taking a couple of gunshots to the chest, Bats seemingly rises from the dead and delivers a brutal kick to the chest before grabbing the other guy, suspending him over the roof and telling him to warn all of his friends about him.
It’s a perfect introduction to this version of the character and Keaton nails the role from the very first moment.
