Batman's 10 Best Movie Moments
8. Batmobile Chase (Batman Begins)
After the neon soaked nightmare of Batman & Robin, Christopher Nolan decided it was necessary to take the character back to a more realistic setting. A director known for his intense attention to detail and dedication to practical effects, Nolan and his team actually built a working batmobile that was able to pull off insane stunts without any need for digital effects.
The best instance of this is the very first chase between Batman and the police in Batman Begins. After rescuing Rachel, his childhood sweetheart, from the clutches of the Scarecrow, Bats has to get her to the batcave before she succumbs to the fatal effects of Scarecrow’s toxin.
It is such a fun scene as it shows off what the Tumbler (as it is referred to) is capable of, something every viewer was eager to see as soon as they laid eyes on it. Nolan’s decision to intersperse the scene with little snippets of the cop’s reaction is fantastic as it allows the viewer to revel in the utter disbelief at what they are seeing.
The fact that Nolan actually had the Tumbler physically drive and leap over rooftops (ok, they were sets but still) makes this that bit more impressive.
