Baywatch Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

2. The Rock & Zac Efron's Awesome Chemistry

Baywatch Dwayne Johnson Zac Efron

Yes, all the film's flaws considered, The Rock and Zac Efron sure ain't phoning it in here, and they do deliver genuinely entertaining performances even though they're working from thoroughly mediocre material.

Johnson is a mountain of charisma as usual and makes for a far more likeable Mitch Buchannon than David Hasselhoff ever was, and his frequent run-ins with Efron's arrogant Olympian Matt Brody do make for a sometimes-compelling sit.

Efron meanwhile continues to prove himself a natural comic talent, and though he's still waiting for that big breakout role, he turns in some great work here. It's just a shame they're both struggling throughout to elevate such a lousy script.
