Beauty And The Beast: 21 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

2. Lumiere's Transformation

Beauty And The Beast Lumiere
Disney

Rather than being a candelabra with a face - as he is in the 1991 animation - Lumiere looks more recognisably like a little golden man holding candles.

This definitely feels like a nod to his costume in the stage musical, which - for obvious reasons - saw the players in more human form, but gradually changing more into inanimate objects (a story-telling quirk the live action film also borrows).

He does become a real candelabra twice in the film though, as a nod to his look in the cartoon - on his first appearance and at the end when the curse turns him into an inanimate candelabra before the Enchantress reverses it.
