Beauty And The Beast Remake: 8 Deleted Scenes You Need To See

3. Cogsworth Rescues Lumière

During another deleted scene from the battle at the castle, Lumière is attacked by one of the female villagers, who seizes the charismatic candlestick and attempts to snuff out his wicks.

Just in the nick of time, Cogsworth comes to his comrade's rescue as he barrels down the bannister, armed with a sword and pistol, from which he shoots the villager without a moment’s hesitation.

However, when she turns around, Cogsworth is shocked to discover that it is in fact his wife, Clothilde the fishmonger, but continues to fight her off with his sword even after making the identification.

This is a humourous throwback to the original animation where the clock-and-candle team-up against Gaston and his cronies, chiefly LeFou, who waves a torch perilously close to Lumière, melting him slightly, before Cogsworth intervenes, poking him with a pair of scissors.

It’s a shame that the updated version of the scene didn’t make it into the final cut of the live-action remake, as it may have helped to explain why the prince’s butler (formerly the enchanted clock) seems displeased at the prospect of being reunited with his spouse at the end of the film.

Just remember though, time heals all wounds.
