Beauty And The Beast: 20 Fiendishly Clever Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

13. Beast's Grisly Secret

Beauty And The Beast Easter Eggs
Disney

Looking back at the early drafts of the film, Beauty And The Beast was intended to be a lot darker. There was to be a scene in which Gaston visited the asylum, and Beast not only looked far more threatening, he was also less human. Having been trapped in his animal form for ten years, Beast was to have lost something of his humanity, which was shown in a sequence that saw him dragging a dead animal through the castle.

Unfortunately for people who like their Disney films bloody, it was deemed too gruesome to put in the final version and was never animated. But because the morbid idea of Beast losing himself was still important, there's a memory of the draft in there, as a stripped skeleton can be seen in the West Wing of the castle, mostly hidden by the shadows (above).

Paying attention to the background can prove fruitful elsewhere too, as several of the paintings in the castle are vague homages to famous paintings by the likes of Rembrandt and Goya.
