Beauty & The Beast Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. The Third Act Is Totally Insane

Though parts of the first two acts certainly feel a little sluggish, the final 40 minutes are basically pure, wish-fulfilling pay-off, what with the iconic dance scene between Belle and the Beast and a riotous final battle sequence at the Beast's castle that probably blew most of the movie's effects budget.

What's arguably most impressive and surprising is the high emotional crescendo the film reaches in its final moments, for as dated as certain elements of the romance might seem to modern eyes, the elemental, iconic nature of these characters and these songs is difficult to deny.

The movie's final reel is thrilling, action-packed, a little scary, and might even have you sharing a tear or two, nostalgic or otherwise. For all of its flaws, it absolutely sticks the landing, which is what people will probably remember most.
