Beauty & The Beast Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Hilarious Gay Subtext

Beauty And The Beast Josh Gad Le Fou

There was much pre-release controversy about the movie not being certified for release in Malaysia due to Disney's refusal to cut a "gay moment" from the film.

This refers to Josh Gad's Le Fou, who is quite blatantly gay, making not-so-subtle allusions to his affection for Gaston in a cheekily hilarious style that's a fun, campy addition to the dynamic between the two.

The particular "moment" that's been singled out is in fact a two-second shot at the very end of the movie, and so utterly inconsequential it's incredible anyone could actually be bothered to whine about it.

Le Fou's gay. It plays well comedically thanks to Gad and Evans' chemistry. People need to get over it.
