Before Skyfall: 10 Definitive Thomas Newman Scores

1. Road to Perdition

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN3ogbTuDSE Very few films and film scores affect me the way Road to Perdition consistently does. As sad, bleak and somber as the film and the score are, they hit all the right tones. Thanks to the masterful calculation of both Mendes and Newman, it is nearly impossible not to be invested in the world they€™ve created. Released in 2002, the score encompasses nearly every distinctive formal element of Newman€™s sound and serves as an excellent bridge for the different phases of his career. While the score may not be as easy to listen to as others, it accompanies the film with prestige. It is a haunting and powerful score that never fails to captivate; a love letter to film and music alike, an accomplishment and in my opinion the most definitive score crafted by Newman.
