Ben Affleck: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

Great Batman. Shame about the Bruce Wayne.

People just can't seem to make up their mind on Ben Affleck. Fellow comeback king Matthew McConaughey had a very simple up-down-up trajectory, but Affleck has flip-flopped back and forth so many times He burst on the screen playing generic tough guys, but working with buddies Kevin Smith and Matt Damon developed serious nerd and artistic cred, something he managed to trample with a string of mindless action roles. Then we got Bennifer, which is a whole arc in itself, with the public switching from loving to hating the couple in no time at all and their break-up (along with a string of duds) seemingly burying Affleck. But not so: he came roaring back, this time in the director's seat and in just three films showed a hitherto unseen intelligence and put another Oscar on his mantle. Whew, even Universal Studios doesn't have a rollercoaster as turbulent as that. Heck, the actor-director-writer-producer's reputation fluctuates so much people couldn't even keep consistent about a singular role; when he was announced as Batman the response was overwhelmingly negative (he has the chin, isn't that all that matters?), but gradually fans have come round, to the point where many went into Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice expecting him to be the best version of the Dark Knight ever. Now that movie's arrived and we finally get to have a look at his Caped Crusader, it's time to go back through his filmography and pick out some of the most noteworthy performances in the rise-and-fall-and-rise-and-fall-and-rise of Ben Affleck. These aren't Affleck's worst or best performances, but they're some of his most remarkable and, with him now Batman for the forseeable, are definitely worth a revisit.
